4. How much energy savings can I hope to achieve by improving my efficiency? That depends upon a great many things. A fast answer is the less efficient your technologies are the greater the savings will likely see. As a general rule older building technologies are less efficient than modern buildings (which aren’t always very energy efficient). It’s almost a certainty that if your building is over 20 years old and you have not already made improvements to your lighting, HVAC, motors or other technologies then you can expect to see major improvements. Sometimes as high as an 80% reduction in energy use! In addition, and probably more importantly, your business environment should improve. Using energy technology properly should make people more comfortable and safer. Research has also shown increases in productivity, less employee turnover, and higher customer satisfaction. Computers aren’t the only technology getting less expensive, more reliable and improving your operating performance. While your facility may not have the same appeal to you as your IT department if you ignore your building technology you’re missing out on an easy windfall of benefits. To learn more about each technology you may wish to visit our sections on Lighting, HVAC, motors, controls, White roofs, HVAC additives, Boilers, Chillers, and Building Shell. (These will be added soon)
Two other factors that play a significant role in the amount of savings you should expect are your operating hours and your cost of energy. The reason for this is simple. Both of these are leveraging factors. Even a small amount of energy reduction that is operating for many hours will contribute a large amount of dollar savings. The same logic applies if your electric rates are high. If you are interested in a quick no commitment reality check to see if you may have an opportunity to benefit you may email us or a call at (800) 253-4801. Your health is too important and calling The First Energy Group won’t cost you anything and will probably pay you thousands if not millions of dollars. The longer you plan to be at your location the more important it is to make it efficient and effective.
