2. Why can’t I just leave my building alone? Isn’t it already energy efficient? You can leave your building alone. After all you’ve gotten this far and you still don’t see any crisis looming. As people complain or problems arise you can react and fix them. You can always ask your trades for advice. If that’s what you’ve done in the past and you’re happy with your results then you really don’t need to do anything else. After all you’re already doing things the way many other companies do.
Why your building may not have the right infra-structure. Most buildings infrastructures are built and designed by people to meet minimum code standards and put you into the building at the least cost. This is the way our system works– experience has trained people to do just that. Contractors, engineers and architects have learned over time that most building developers are very price conscious. They have learned that to be competitive they have to leave out the extra bells and whistles and give their clients what they ask for – not necessarily what is best for them. So instead of recommending you use the premium high efficiency units they recommend the “commercial” standards. They’ve learned it doesn’t pay for them to do anything else. After all their business isn’t advancing energy effectiveness it’s something else like contracting, design or engineering. And, even if you were smart and took that extra effort when you built chances are that was years ago. Technology has advanced a lot in only a few years. If you’ve changed building uses over the years or moved into someone else’s facility it’s extremely likely that your energy needs aren’t tailored to your business needs. You probably have a lot of mismatched usages. Example of this would include large air handling capabilities for small areas or small air handling capabilities for large areas. Sometimes your office may be lit like an engineering area or your engineering areas may be designed for office work. In any case if you don’t match your needs up to your uses it’s as inefficient as having your CFO do your invoice entry or your warehouse people approving checks.
Your employees and customers all have a major effect on your business. Doesn’t it seem like a good idea to at least understand if more effective energy usage would make them more productive or increase your sales. Much of what The First Energy Group does is to educate. We know that the best way for you to decrease the use of energy is to understand the benefits. Most companies try to stay away from educating their prospects - it’s time consuming and distracts companies from what they really want to do. At The First Energy Group it’s our passion. We are Champions of the Energy Revolution and enjoy taking our message to the masses. It’s our way of feeling good about ourselves. Together we can change the world for the better!
